MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR

So much has changed in the world, including in our church. When we abruptly closed in March, many of us assumed it would be a temporary situation. Now we are here in August and our doors are still closed. In the Spring we worshipped by Zoom. Weekly readings and a sermon were sent to members by email. That continues. Once the weather became warm, we moved outdoors and have been worshipping in our cars in our parking lot. This will continue at 9:00 through Labor Day weekend. For the rest of September we will continue our parking lot worship but at 10:30. We invite you to drive in and join us. Meanwhile, pending no major corona virus outbreaks in the area, our church council is tentatively planning for a return to worship in our sanctuary on October 4 at 10:30. All will be asked to wear masks and seating will be arranged to comply with social distancing guidelines. Per CDC instructions and guidance from our New England Synod, there will be no congregational singing or choir. Further instructions will be posted here and in church mailings/enews by mid September. Meanwhile we ask for your prayers that God would guide and bless us as we move forward. Throughout the course of this pandemic, we have continued to pray for the sick and dying. Visitation has been done by phone/email/ or on a porch or deck or through a window. Cards are regularly sent to shut-ins and elderly. We have finally been able to resume our free Community Meal, with takeout only. Prepackaged takeout meals are distributed every Wednesday in our parking lot from 1:00-2:00. Although we all miss the fellowship, which is such an important feature of our Community Meal, communal dining is not permissible at this time. If you would like to have a meal, just drop by and one will be provided. Please wear a mask. We have also been able to “adopt” two families from the Greater Portland Family Promise ministry that we are part of. These are immigrant families from Congo that went through the Family Promise program and now have apartments. However, the challenges of life in America are compounded by Covid -19. We are glad to lend our support in various ways. Our annual “Climb Aboard the Food Train” event for the Westbrook Food Pantry was interrupted by the pandemic. However, both food and money jars have been coming in to the church and are being tallied on a regular basis. We have been able to use some of the food to help those who have come to our door seeking assistance. Although there are very limited times when someone is at the church, you can contact us by private email at [email protected] Messages left in the church email or church phone may not be picked up immediately as we have no secretary currently monitoring our communications. May you find comfort in a God who is kind and merciful, and abounding in steadfast love, especially in these challenging times.

Food Drive Mission

Due to the virus Trinity Lutheran Church is unable to pick up the jars that were placed in businesses in late February for "Climb Aboard the Food Train". As soon as it is safe we will pick up the jars. If anyone would like to contribute to our annual fundraiser, please send check to Trinity Lutheran designated for Westbrook Food Pantry. Thank you for your patience and stay safe! Blessings - Social Ministry
